Christmas and New Year Ski Holidays 2026: What Club Med Charges for the Festive Weeks

A ski week over Christmas or New Year is one of the most popular family trips there is, and one of the most expensive. With schools in England finishing on Friday 18 December 2026, there are only two festive weeks to choose from, and every family who wants one is competing for the same rooms.
We check Club Med prices every morning at 11 French Alps resorts. Here is what the festive weeks cost in August, how they compare with the weeks either side, and what we have seen prices do since spring.
The short answer: in mid-August 2026, a family of four (two adults, two children aged 4-11) was quoted £8,844 to £16,061 for Christmas week at Club Med, without flights. New Year cost more than Christmas at all 11 resorts. Christmas week was a median 35% more than the week of 13 December, about £2,600 extra.
The two festive weeks
| Week | Leave | Return | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Christmas | Sat 19 or Sun 20 Dec 2026 | 26 or 27 Dec | Christmas Day in resort |
| New Year | Sat 26 or Sun 27 Dec 2026 | 2 or 3 Jan 2027 | Home before school restarts on 4 Jan |
Most of the resorts we track run Sunday to Sunday. Grand Massif and Serre-Chevalier also sell Saturday starts, which can help if you want an extra day at home before term.

A few things the table shows:
- New Year is the dearer week everywhere. The gap for a family is between about £1,000 (Valmorel, Grand Massif, La Rosière) and £2,900 (Peisey-Vallandry) at most resorts, but it reaches £4,100 at Tignes and £8,400 at Val d’Isère.
- Price and altitude do not line up neatly. La Plagne 2100, one of the highest resorts on the list, is the third least expensive for Christmas. If snow reliability is your priority, it stands out.
- The spread is huge. The same family pays nearly twice as much for Christmas at Val d’Isère as at Serre-Chevalier or Valmorel.
How much more do the festive weeks cost?
Comparing each resort with itself takes the resort premium out of the picture:
- Christmas week vs the week of 13 December: a median 35% more (about £2,600 for a family of four). La Plagne goes from £6,508 to £9,172; Tignes from £8,728 to £11,788.
- New Year vs the lowest-priced January week: a median 29% more.
The week of 13 December is still term time for most children, so this is not a like-for-like option for school families. But if you have pre-school children, or older children with a flexible school, mid-December is the obvious alternative: the same resort, typically similar early-season conditions to Christmas, and around a quarter less.
What prices have done since spring
We have been checking these weeks since late April (Grand Massif, Serre-Chevalier and Val Thorens since early May). Most festive prices have not moved at all. Where they have, the direction for families has mostly been up:
- Grand Massif Christmas week rose from £8,336 to £9,798 (+£1,462).
- Tignes New Year rose from £13,462 to £15,900 (+£2,438).
- Valmorel Christmas rose from £8,224 to £9,002.
- Alpe d’Huez and La Rosière Christmas both rose by about £500.
There were a few falls: Val d’Isère’s Christmas week dropped from £21,678 to £16,061 for a family, and New Year at Alpe d’Huez and La Rosière eased by about £600. Big falls like Val d’Isère’s usually mean a different room type has become the lowest available, not that the whole week has been reduced.
The pattern is what you would expect for weeks with fixed demand and limited rooms: when prices move, they tend to move up as rooms sell.
Getting there
- Flying: Geneva, Lyon, Chambéry and Grenoble all serve these resorts. Christmas weekend flights are among the busiest of the year, so price them at the same time as the resort.
- Train: Eurostar’s ski service runs from Saturday 19 December 2026, changing at Lille, to Moûtiers, Aime-la-Plagne, Landry and Bourg-Saint-Maurice. Note the day: the train arrives on a Saturday, while most Club Med weeks start on a Sunday, so you may need a night in the valley or a Saturday-start resort. Our Eurostar Snow guide has the details.
When to book a Christmas ski holiday
Our data so far points one way for the festive weeks: there has been little reward for waiting, and several resorts have already moved up. If you know you want Christmas or New Year:
- Shortlist two or three resorts, using the table above to see where your budget sits.
- Check the price trend on each resort page before you commit. A price that has just jumped is worth a day or two of watching; one that has held since April is less likely to fall.
- Book the room type you actually want early. Family rooms are the first to go, and when they do the lowest price you see jumps to a bigger, more expensive room.
- Set an alert if you are still deciding. We will email you if your week moves.
Every festive week is also on our school holidays page, updated every morning.

Questions families ask
How much is a Club Med Christmas ski holiday for a family of four in 2026?
In mid-August 2026, seven nights from 19 or 20 December for two adults and two children aged 4-11 ranged from £8,844 at Serre-Chevalier to £16,061 at Val d'Isère, without flights. Most resorts were between £9,000 and £11,800.
Is Christmas or New Year more expensive for skiing?
New Year. At every one of the 11 Club Med French Alps resorts we track, the New Year week (from 26 or 27 December) cost a family of four more than Christmas week, by about £1,000 to £2,900 at most resorts and by over £8,000 at Val d'Isère.
When do I need to leave for a Christmas ski trip in 2026?
Most schools in England and Wales finish on Friday 18 December 2026, so the Christmas week departs on Saturday 19 or Sunday 20 December. The New Year week departs on 26 or 27 December and gets you home on 2 or 3 January, before schools return on 4 January.
Which Club Med ski resorts are best for snow at Christmas?
Altitude helps most in December. Val Thorens (2,300m), Tignes and La Plagne 2100 (both 2,100m) are the highest Club Med resorts we track. Lower resorts such as Valmorel (1,400m) are lovely villages but rely more on early-season snowfall.
